Elevating Employee Wellbeing at Scandic Hotels
In the competitive landscape of the hospitality industry, Scandic stands out not just for its extensive network of over 268 hotels in the Nordics but also for its unwavering commitment to sustainability. As the company navigated the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, a key priority emerged: fostering a workplace environment where health and wellbeing are paramount. In 2023, Scandic, with the support of Aumla, launched a comprehensive Health & Wellbeing program aimed at enhancing the physical, mental, and social health of its employees.
Scandic consistently measured and monitored employee health and engagement, revealing strong engagement levels across the organization. However, despite these positive indicators, the company identified understaffing and increased workloads as primary contributors to stress and mental health challenges among employees. Additionally, the urgency to recruit and train many new employees within a short timeframe significantly added to the HR department's workload, creating excess stress. Committed to ensuring that their employees thrived both at work and in their personal lives, Scandic made health and wellbeing a central focus for 2023.
Health & Wellbeing Strategy
Employee satisfaction has always been a central factor in Scandic's success and has formed the foundation of their efforts. Scandic takes pride in having achieved a level of satisfaction comparable to the best in the industry. Their pursuit of excellence continued in 2023 with the Health & Wellbeing program, which aimed to raise awareness, knowledge, and focus on health at Scandic to increase team members' wellbeing and secure a sustainable workplace for all. Understanding the relation between employee health and wellbeing and engagement is set to place Scandic as leader in workplace sustainability.
